Association of Zoos and AquariumsSenior Vice President, Communications and Government Affairs, AZAThe Senior Vice President, Communications and Government Affairs leads, guides, and oversees all AZA communications and government affairs efforts, including publications, media relations, public opinion polling, legislative initiatives, and regulatory issues. The position also oversees the Wildlife Trafficking Alliance, which is led by AZA's Senior Advisor on Wildlife Trafficking and is a coalition of more than 80 leading companies, non-profit organizations, and AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums working together to reduce, and eventually eliminate, the illegal trade of wildlife and wildlife products.  The SVP works with the AZA Executive Vice President and AZA President and Chief Executive Officer to set communications and government affairs priorities for the association, and to deliver on those priorities.  The SVP, Communications and Government Affairs determines the overall strategy for the department and executes programs to deliver on that strategy for the organization; determines the focus and direction of the department's functions, including day-to-day oversight of a 6-10 person team; leads the work ethic, culture, and values of the team; develops and manages the department budget; and, provides staff support to the President/CEO, Executive Vice President, Board of Directors, and assigned committees.Experience RequiredQualifications and requisite experience include 10-15 years of practical experience relevant to the position, a Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree preferred), demonstrated increasing level of responsibility and management of teams, proven effectiveness in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Congressional, Executive Branch, and non-governmental organization representatives, experience with communications teams and functions, and demonstrated skills in management, leadership, and collaboration.PerksAZA has a robust and generous benefits package, including but not limited to health care, retirement, vacation leave and sick leave.
